Fashion Field Trip: Urban Outfitters

I have so many knee high boots and pairs of jeans, and a ton of dresses, but not enough cute shirts. So on Saturday I put on my hat and gloves and traipsed through the cold in search of a new shirt!

There were only a few of these shirts on the rack, and they were mixed in with a bunch of other less cute shirts. I'm not usually an XS but I liked it so much I figured I would give it a try. Well, the fit is wonderful! But it does run big, so I would go a size down than your normal size. The sleeves make my arms look like sticks! The stripes are horizontal, which is usually a no-no, but since the stripes are so small, it won't make you look bigger than you are. I love the cute collar, which could have gone a bit too "school-girly," but because the shirt hugs the my torso in all the right places, the collar will look different once you are actually wearing the shirt than it does on the hanger.

Locket Up

I am partial to lockets, and I go even more nuts when I find one that is not in the shape of a heart (I generally hate heart-shaped jewelry, and the chances of you seeing anything heart-shaped on this blog are slim and none and slim just left the room).

Cute To Boot

I have been on the hunt for great cowboy boots that are between an ankle and mid-calf height. I never thought I would find this item at Bandolino! I have always associated Bandolino with pumps and dressy sandals, but every once in a while I am surprised by the direction a shoemaker chooses to go.

BUDGET BELLE: Mascara, The Make-Up Necessity

Today is a special day....I proudly present to you a new feature for the blog, our new Beauty Barganista, Stefanie! Take It Away, Stef!

I'm the type of girl who loves to play around with make-up, especially for big events. However, when it comes right down to it, my daily routine is pretty basic. Cover-up, a little blush, a special trick I learned that makes it appear as if you actually got a full night's sleep (more on that in a future post), and the most important thing of all - MASCARA.

That's right folks, mascara is your best friend. Need a little wake-up for your face? You just need a good quality mascara and an eyelash curler. I know some of you are skeptical about the eyelash curler, but I can't say enough about it. If you have long lashes, or you want more of an "awake" look, curling your eyelashes is a must. It takes two seconds and is painless - I promise! I prefer the Shu Uemura eyelash curler (sometimes called the holy grail of eyelash curlers - and for good reason) because it makes my lashes look perfectly curled, without that weird crimped look you can get from some of the cheaper brands. It's a little pricier than a lot of people would prefer, however I've had mine for about five years - definitely a bargain when you think about it that way. You can buy it here.

Now, onto mascara. Ladies - I'm sure you understand how difficult it is to find a non-flaky, non-clumping, reasonably priced mascara these days. Well, lucky for you, I've done most of the searching for you. Behold - the Cover Girl Lashblast Length Mascara. I know, I know - Cover Girl? YES. I've tried a lot of the pricey brands, including the ones that most fashion and beauty magazines rave about as the "best on the market." I've only been disappointed. They either clump or flake or just don't do anything for me.

The Lashblast Length mascara is in my everyday make-up bag because it works, plain and simple. My lashes look longer, thicker, and they're CLUMP-FREE! (Trust me, that deserves to be in all caps.) And at less than $10, it's a bargain. As a fair-skinned brunette, I prefer to use "blackest black," but one of my dearest friends, a fair-skinned blonde, uses "black brown" and loves it as well.

I <3 New Jersey (Dresses)

Jersey dresses! They're awesome if you either 1) have no "bumps" or 2) don't mind wearing spanx! Keeping that in mind, let's move forward!

Chances are that if you have any sort of booty, this dress is not for you. It's going to hug your ass and everyone will know that you have junk in the trunk. If you have a normal-sized bum, keep reading!

Ok! Now we have whittled down this dress to who can wear it. Jersey dresses are like...New Jersey! Some people love it, but it's not for everyone. This is a "going-out" dress, and so if you wear it, you better wear a ton of jewelry, a flashy bag, and awesome cage sandals. Otherwise, it will look like you threw an oversized t-shirt on! You have to use the flashy accessories to bring out the brilliant elements of the dress, like the slits in the sleeves, and the tight mini skirt bottom.

GUYS BUYS: Converse

I love converse. They are the anytime, anywhere shoe. However, when a friend of mine said his parents had purchased him black leather converse, I was admittedly skeptical. My immediate thought was that only a hipster pimp would wear leather converse. Then the shoes arrived, and when he had them on, I didn't even realize that they were leather! They looked EXACTLY like regular converse! They just happened to be leather.

It's a big plus that leather converse won't get holes in them after a couple of months. If you're wearing them and you get caught in the rain, your feet won't freeze like they do in regular cloth converse. All in all, a smart update on a classic shoe.

I know that not everyone is into the envelope bag, but I am, so here's one I like!

Since this is a deal blog, you may be questioning the price here. However, this bag is handmade. It's an original bag designed by Daniel Farago-Szabo, a Hungarian designer that specializes in leather goods. Each bag is handmade and one of a kind. That means...it's worth the price! It makes sense to pay a lot for something that is not only beautiful, but unique.

It's very eye-catching, and it would obviously be the star of your outfit. It's more of a casual piece, so I think pairing it with boots, nice jeans and a silk top would be your best bet.

Even though it is featured with a strap, I would advise against wearing it like this, because then it might be a little too "80's." Instead, keep it as a clutch to update the look!

The Evolution Of Bedazzling

I rarely post shoes that are on sale online, but only have one or two sizes left. Chances are you are not a 6 or an 11, but I love this ballet flat SO much that I could not resist!

I love it when gold shoes are a subdued gold, and not that Vegas style hit-you-in-the-face gold. It's Banana Republic, so you know it's going to be a little more professional, but this is pretty fashion forward for them, and so I'm excited to see this kind of shoe front and center.

I like the trend of jewels on shoes, but sometimes the jewels don't match the color of the shoe, or they are not arranged in the right pattern, or they're just plain ugly. Whoever is making them should know that placing the jewels on the shoes is not an exercise in advanced bedazzling, and that there is an art to jewel placement.

At first when I saw this shirt, I thought "country western." Then I thought "hipster." then I thought "urban chic." And at that point, I realized...it's all three!

Keyhole Cuteness

Sometimes, Macy's has amazing sales. This dressy tank is a prime example of a good Macy's bargain.

There is absolutely no way you would see this shirt in the BCBG store for this price. Macy's will go where BCBG will not!

Now, let's discuss why this shirt is awesome:

1. Ruffles that won't make you look fat! If you just have ruffles everywhere, you can look pregnant all too quickly. Here, there is a slight pull in the middle, or at the very least a differentiation between the ruffles right at the waist to prevent that "expecting" look.

2. The keyhole! The fashionable way of saying "I have awesome breasts" without wearing a low-cut shirt. I'm all for showing your girls in a low-cut v-neck, but sometimes you want to leave a little imagination to it! For those situations, the keyhole is the perfect fashion element.
