Out Of Africa (And On To Your Skirt)

By Jax

I love it when Anthropologie stuff is less than $50!

Look closely at the skirt...yes!  Those are zebras on the bottom!  I love this skirt for mimicking the Lilly Pulitzer aesthetic of putting animals on clothing, but in a more exotic, modern way.  I love the colors and the shape, everything works so well considering there are so many zebras on the skirt!  Pair with oxfords for a casual sunday look.

DESIGNER ALERT - Tibi

By Jax

Do you have legs?  Do you know how to use them?  Perhaps they should be sporting an ultra mini!

Now...I know not everyone is for the bubble bottom.  But men have a serious thing for bubble bottom skirts and dresses.  I have no idea why (I really, honestly don't), but I've heard from at least 15 guys that it really turns them on.

However, I hate hate hate to dress for men.  I try to dress in what makes me happy and what makes me feel confident.  But hey, if what makes you feel sexy and confident happens to coincide with what men think is attractive, then we have, as Steve Carrell would say, a win win win!

Wild Child In Wildflower

By Jax

Florals finally seem appropriate in New York, where yesterday I confidently went running in shorts and a t-shirt without worrying if I would come back frozen!

This skirt can be paired with a fitted tank top and wedges for the spring and summer, and when fall comes, a pair of purple opaque tights will do just fine.

A Lace Beauty

By Jax

Yay!  New boutique discovery!  Isn't it nice when you discover something new?  And along with it came the discovery of this lace skirt!  It's begging for some colorful shoes, or maybe a whimsical crown of flowers and ribbons!  Wear it well into fall with a pair of slouchy brown suede boots.

Vintage Vixen: Liberty Print Skirt

This skirt is so beautiful! It's the perfect transitional skirt to ease into the warmer weather. The Liberty print is so nice and the yoke at the waistband with the gathered skirt would be flattering and feel comfortable. Starting to think about saying goodbye so so many pants and this skirt helps ease the transition to bare legs!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: A Nice Surprise

Whoa!  Hard to believe I found this skirt in Charlotte Russe!  This looks like something that would come from Ann Taylor, or White House Black Market, at a much heftier price.  Just beware that it's on the stretchy side, so if you're gonna wear it for work, go a size up!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Rising In The Ranks

Anything with "military" in the title can be smashingly wonderful, or hideously horrible.  I think, unfortunately, when you see a whole rack of this particular skirt, it looks like a bunch of hideously horrible.

But look at how they styled it on the model...she looks cute!  The dark green is a nice, deep color on a solid, wear-it-forever basic.  I think this military skirt should move up in the ranks!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Pink

I don't think you should wear this skirt with black boots like the model.  Instead, I would take this in a girly direction.  It's already soft pink, so why fight it?  Pair it with a loose white top, or a white t-shirt, and maybe a pair of floral flip flops for some added color and pattern.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: The Social (Lace) Network

I'm always into lace (have been since I can first member caring about fashion), and I love the lace drop down effect in skirts where, as here, it goes past the lining.  It's the same effect as something sheer, but it's super classy and old school (but in a sexy way.)

I also like this very versatile cream color.  You can pair it with white, or black for a sharp contrast, or a variety of soft pastels, perfect for spring.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Fashion FAQ

Dear Fashion Deal Diva,

I need your help! I just got this skirt from Ruche, and I am stumped on how to style it...any tips???

-Skirt Purchaser

Dear Skirt Purchaser,

Congratulations...this is the most difficult Fashion FAQ I've ever done!  It's REALLY hard to pair this skirt with the right top!  I think it's because there is so much going on in the skirt and it's hard to find a top that is the right shape for this sort of bottom.

My first recommendation is actually to tailor the skirt.  All too often, skirts of this length can look a little dowdy.  If it looks that way on you, don't be afraid to tailor it!  It's still the same beautiful skirt, just shorter!

I came up with a few shirt options, all of which are below.

If you go with this top, you're just sticking to neutral, light, springy feel of the skirt.  I would recommend tucking it (unless you want to go for an ultra-hippie look), and maybe pairing it with a light brown belt.

If you're a fan of the flashy, then this sequin tank (paired with an already busy skirt) might be right up your alley.  Even though the skirt is a neutral tone, by pairing it with a sequin tank, you create a night look.

I like the idea of a plain white tank with the skirt and then an open-face cardigan on top.  The pink adds a nice color match to the ensemble.

As for shoes, below are my recs:

First, I couldn't seem to capture the nude version of this sandal, so let me start off by saying I do NOT advise buying the black, but rather the beautiful light beige.  My immediate thought when I saw the skirt was to go for a chunky sandal, and this one fits my vision almost perfectly.

With a flowy, lacey skirt like this, you can't go wrong with glitter flops.  Just make sure they work in the color scheme of the skirt! (i.e. white, pink, beige, brown, etc.)

FASHION DEAL DIVA: An Ivory Basic

Just like you probably have a go-to black skirt, you should also have a go-to cream or ivory skirt.  It's not something you would necessarily think you would need, or even wear, until it's sitting in your closet.  Then all of a sudden you start wearing it ALL THE TIME.  Especially when the thermometer creeps up past 70, and wearing black becomes an exercise in sweating it out.

Oversized bows...I still can't resist you!

If you need a new black mini, then go with this, and if you have too many black minis as it is, then I highly recommend the nude, a perfect shade for the upcoming spring and summer evenings!

Also, I totally just bought this skirt.  Can't wait for it to arrive!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Organza A Go-Go

J. Crew online styling is, once again, hit or miss.  I am 100% convinced that the reason this skirt is on sale is because they styled it wrong on the model!  I won't even show you the picture of her wearing it, because it will turn you off!

Instead, think up your own style creation for this classy mini.  Dots of any kind never go out of style, and this peachy-keen color is the embodiment of spring.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: A Mini Problem

It's surprisingly hard to find a cheap black cotton mini-skirt.  Mine got washed one too many times and started to get that faded black look, so I set out to find a new one.  Well golly, who knew it would be so hard?  Every time I found something that came close to what I was looking for, it was over $100.  For a cotton mini?  You have to be kidding me!

Mandee to the rescue, folks.  Under $20 for the black cotton mini you'll no doubt run into the ground!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: My Blue Metallic Pencil Skirt

I have a penchant for anything metallic.  And I know it's not always the easiest stuff to wear.  But BLUE metallic IS easy to wear!  That little bit of color takes off the edge that black metallic often has.  And it doesn't have the fancy factor that a gold or silver metallic has.  It's just your average metallic, when you want to look special, but not too flashy.
