COMFY COQUETTE: Revamp Your Style - Taking it to the Streets

When I first started writing these posts, I was inspired by a resolution to revamp my at home look -- trading in my sweats and pj pants for cute but comfy lingerie and lounge wear.

Like most people with resolutions, I got lazy about a month in. But ladies -- it's February, the social pressure of Valentine's Day is behind us, and I am determined to pick back up where I left off. So, here goes: the first in a series of posts about how to revamp your style, to find the comfy coquette in all of us.

Part 1: taking it to the street

First off, everyone needs lounge wear: the go to, casual wear you slip into on weekends, good for running errands, sitting in front of the TV, and other leisurely activities. If you're like me, this can be hard to pull off, especially if your "go to" lounge pieces consist of a patagonia fleece from sophomore year of high school and ill-fitting workout pants. Say it with me now, "revamp!"

The true test of cute lounge wear is to see if it is street-worthy. Simply answer the question, "Can I wear this out of the house without looking like I'm wearing underwear, nostalgic for high school or my college sorority?"

A few great options to invest in:

Chic Wrap

Ok - it's a little pricey. But you can literally wear this wrap F-O-R-E-V-E-R. Pair with a tee/tank with jeans for brunch or slip over a chemise or PJs at home. This is a go-to lounge piece that every comfy coquette must own.

Made By: LuLuLemon Athletica

Price: $118

Versatile Tee

I've posted about this tee before, but it is so fab I must do it again. This V-Neck from American Apparel is literally the best tee you'll ever own. Perfect with PJ pants, jeans, high waisted skirts - anything. It's the most versatile top!! (And absolutely, does not look like underwear.)

Made By: American Apparel

Price: $22

Flattering Leggings

These leggings from Lucy are designed to suck you in, and trim your waist line. Wear to the gym with sneakers, or out and about with flats - as long as you pair with the right top, you can make these your go-to casual bottoms.

COMFY COQUETTE: Fit to be tied... by Victoria Secret

Romper and leotard style lingerie can be kind of weird in steamy situations. I mean, who really wants to climb out of their underwear in front of their partner? Not I. This satin and lace romper by Victoria Secret presents the perfect solution, however. The deep v-neckline, front ties and satin bodice make getting in and out easy. I'm also loving the color!

COMFY COQUETTE: Just Stick It

Holiday parties galore mean great holiday dresses - some of which simply won't work with the usual undergarments. The NuBra is a really great alternative for those with a small to medium size bust. These stick-on cutlets conceal and shape while holding your girls in place, sans straps of any kind.

I was skeptical at first. I mean, does the NuBra really stay on, even while dancing the night away? And what about the whole stick on and peel off process? I assure you - the NuBra is awesome. The adhesive backing keeps the cutlets in place and they last through multiple wearings. Putting them on and peeling them off is really easy as well and not nearly as weird as you'd think.

They're definitely worth a try. You have nothing to lose but visible bra straps or wardrobe malfunctions ;)

COMFY COQUETTE: Toasty Toes by Style&Co.

As the weather gets colder, I find myself in search of the perfect pair of slippers to keep my feet toasty all season long. There are a ton of great bargains out there, but I am choosy when it comes to selecting the perfect pair.

COMFY COQUETTE: Dapper Cami by ABS

Cami's are a ComfyCoquette necessity and this dapper number is one of those rare finds that can make the transition from bed to brunch. The black stretch jersey ensures this top will keep its shape while the silk ruffle and bow placket really dresses it up - you could totally rock this under a bold vneck or cardigan. So cute!

COMFY COQUETTE: Thermal Shortie Short

Fall in NYC can be especially tricky for sleepwear because the crisp outdoor weather screams "bundle up," while heated apartment buildings "strip down!" These cute thermal boyshorts are the perfect compromise because you'll still feel toasty while bearing just enough skin to stay cool under your winter duvet. Purchase with either a thermal henley for added warmth or a cotton cami to keep it cool - VS has cute slippers to match too!

COMFY COQUETTE: Cutie Cotton Bikini

I have a few go-to brands for cute, comfy underthings and DKNY is up there on the list. These cotton bikinis are the perfect example - cotton and covered with feminine lace and ribbon details that take you from "comfy" to "coquette." Color options are great too, from classic black to sassy prints. Love!

COMFY COQUETTE: Forever21 Sleep & Lounge

This weekend I checked out Forever21's new sleep and lounge collection, and like the rest of Forever21, it rocks! The quality is pretty good - PJ pants and boxer shorts are a soft, substantial flannel - and the patterns are contemporary and cute. They even have more adult numbers: rompers, baby dolls and a chemise or two. Or three. Here are some of my in-store faves:

Cotton PJ Set
Available in a variety of colors and patterns, this PJ set is a holiday gift-giving s
taple. It's certain to fit well too, unlike some of those department store PJ sets that are a little too... drab and baggy. I'm a fan.

Price: $14.80

Plaid Babydoll with Lace Trim
There is something about plaid lingerie that is so cute and unexpect
ed, and this top is one of those pieces. The material is a thin cotton (versus flannel, which is the only addition that would have made this even cuter), but the drape
and flounce is really flattering. I love how you could pair this with gray or black boyshorts as well for a laid back, sexy style.

Price: $14.80

Snowflake Slipper Socks
These slipper socks will keep you warm and toasty all season long - available in traditional black/cream, or fun grey/pink.

Price: $10.80

COMFY COQUETTE: Harem PJ Pant

I came across these Harem Pants by ABS and am totally intrigued. I love the feminine details - the satin-sash and the drape of the jersey knit. They come in either soft pink or black, which are both bound to go with most basics in your PJ drawer, and the capri-length is perfect for any season. Grab a pair and create your own arabian nights... at home.

Price: $31.99

COMFY COQUETTE: Flirty Skirt

This flirty skirt is just the thing you need to top off a cute bra and undies set (behind closed doors, of course). It is sure to wow, yet still really easy to wear and provides just enough coverage. I like the blue because it it gives a great dash of color and breaks up the black-red-pink staples in my goodie drawer. And this is the kind of lingerie I can totally get behind - not too tight, lace and flounce, versatile... and totally wow worthy.

COMFY COQUETTE: VS Satin Sleep Set

As the weather gets crisp, its hard to bring myself to jump into skimpy sleepwear. But I'm not ready to fall into flannel just yet. A good transitional number is a silk or satin PJ set, like this one from Victoria Secret.

Not only are there a bunch of colors and patterns to choose from, but the sizing makes this set feel super lux - you can actually choose your pant length. (For all those petite or leggy ladies out there, you know what I'm talking about.) Around the holidays, you can get really great deals on these sets too. They make great gifts for Mom, your bestie or more for you :)

COMFY COQUETTE: Mad Men Style Pink Slip

If you watch Mad Men, you've probably seen Pete Campbell's wife, Trudy, prancing around their bedroom in a little number just like this... even when nine months pregnant (which deserves a whole other post, but I digress).

I admit - those scenes were my inspiration for bringing flirty PJs back into my personal domestic style. But what do you think? Is this style sweet or antique?

I came across these leggings and I'm in love. The little hint of lace at the bottom gives it a little bit of spice, while the bow keeps it nice :) Plus, they are super easy to wear around the house and such a step up from standard PJ pants. Snatch these up before they're all gone!

COMFY COQUETTE: Tee-rific Bra Find

This Gilligan O'Malley bra one of those amazing shopping finds that you don't come across frequently: a variety of colors/sizes, awesome fit, great quality and even better price! I bought this bra on a whim and I'm raving about it ever since. The t-shirt material is perfect for everyday wear, and looks completely smooth underneath your tees. The cups are lightly lined to give you a natural shape, and the straps stay in place with just the right amount of stretch. My only regret is that I bought just one!

COMFY COQUETTE: Slipping Back To Morocco

Greetings fashion lovers! I'm back from my wedding/honeymoon and slowly getting back into the swing of things. We spent a blissful week in Morocco, and I can't seem to shake it. The colors! the textiles! The food! It's amazing.

In a honeymooner haze while walking through the Old Medina in Fes, I got distracted by the amazing scarves, rugs and jewelry, and forgot to pick up the one item I really wanted - leather Moroccan slippers. So, I took to the web when I landed stateside to find some Cinderella-style goodies to share.

These beauties are the real deal. They're imported from Marrakech and come in a range of colors and styles - from pink to metallic, bedazzled and plain. I personally love the black and white! Perfect for shuffling around the apartment in old world style...
