DESIGNER ALERT: Nicole Miller

My favorite feature of Nicole Miller dresses is her signature ruching. God, she just knows how to make your figure look so damn good! I swear, my butt looks better in Nicole Miller dresses than it does in anything else.

I love the colors she used in this dress, and the "shell" pattern. There's enough of a pattern on here that you could wear this to a wedding, and even though graduation season just passed, this is a PERFECT graduation dress (so maybe consider it if you're graduating next year???)

Peridot Twist

A combination you don't see that often is something rustic with peridot.

My sister, having been born in August, has sported peridot forever. As a July baby, I really hated that my stone was ruby. I love all things green! Why couldn't MY birth stone be peridot???

There's nothing girly and sweet about these earrings, but they are still beautiful, and very very different. The tough edge the designer has given to them is mesmerizing. I'm hooked!

FRUGAL FIANCÉE: David's Bridal, yes I said David's Bridal

Continuing from yesterday's post, this week is bridesmaid dress week. Above is a beautiful silk organza dress from David's Bridal.

Despite what you might otherwise think, David's Bridal has some cute, non-cookie-cutter designs for brides and their lady crew (am I the only one who hates the words maid and matron?). The dress above is $59.99, yes that is a cute bridesmaid dress for less than $60.

GUYS BUYS: Dress It Up, Shorts Style

I'm all about men's dress shorts for this summer so you'll probably see a different pair hit the blog at least once a week.

Go ahead and pair this awesome pair of white shorts with a pastel button down and a blazer if you need to be dressy dressy. If you're feeling adventurous, a navy or khaki vest MAY work (NOTE: You may need the assistance of a woman to pull off the vest look. If you are in doubt of the outfit, please consult a lady!)

SPORTY SPECIAL: Biking In Style

Hey there fashionistas,

My name is Stacy, and I’ll be representing the sporty spice of this blog. I work and live (and run, bike, and swim) in the Pacific Coast playground that is San Francisco. While I’ve been known to get a little muddy and sweaty, I do it in style, and I want to share that sporty style with all you lovely readers.

My first post is for the biker chicks (think pedals, not roadside bar). Picking out cycling equipment can be a daunting task—spandex and shades, carbon fiber and clipless pedals, oh my!

Well, this week I stumbled across a cycling novelty: peep toe pumps…for cycling. That’s right, Pumps. On bikes! And not of the filling-your-tires variety! It’s a whole lot of awesome.
These Camper pumps are a gorgeous mustard hue that will make you look quirky and carefree as you pedal your way to your favorite park on a balmy summer Sunday. They’re of a durable knobby leather that will better hide marks than smooth leather, and the solid heel and wide base of the pump make for excellent pedal-to-shoe contact. They’re also made by Camper—which gives you instant Bay Area cred.

I found these lovelies on the website of a new cycling company brought to you by the same people who started Design Within Reach. The website, www.publicbikes.com, is chock-full of quirky and gorgeous cycling accoutrement, a fair deal of which is both stylish and affordable (the bikes themselves are stylish, yes, but require a more serious financial investment). $5 matching mustard bungee straps for your bike rack? $12 brass or red brass bike bells? $40 blonde woven-wood bike basket? Yes, please!

Cycle in style and with a smile.

It Will Sneak Up On You

There are some days that you wake up and you KNOW you are going to be walking everywhere. Miles and miles of walking don't work too well in cute shoes that are painful.

For those days, you need cute sneakers! These black slip on sneaks could not be cuter or more appropriate.

Pair with a black or white dress and a floppy sun hat. Then head out for a day full of leisurely exercise!

Summer Cool

I'm pretty sure this is the classiest item of clothing I've EVER seen from Guess.

When I think of Guess, I normally think super sexy shoes and dresses that would never fly for daytime hours.

It's a beautiful halter with cute detailing on the bottom and an empire waist. Perfect for a summer party! And in white you'll stay nice and cool.

Come Sail Away With Tee

I heart shirts with sailboats on them!

LET'S BE OVERTLY NAUTICAL!

But in all seriousness, this lightweight tee would be perfect with a pair of jean or bermuda shorts, or leggings on a cool June evening.

Come sail away with tee!!!!

DESIGNER ALERT: Derek Lam

Derek Lam...BLOWING MY MIND!

He takes the embellishment trend and the bow trend and makes them so over the top and somehow it works and is not inappropriate.

This dress is an architectural fashion masterpiece! The vertical bow not only elongates the wearer, but the hourglass shape of the bow brings out that same hourglass eye-drawing to the model. For ladies without curves who long for an hourglass figure, this dress will surely give you that effect!

Pink Teardrops Of Joy

Not all your jewelry needs to be WHAM FLASH BOOM GLITZ SPECTACULAR! Some of your jewelry should be beautiful and subdued, perfect to frame your face and match your sundress for a Saturday afternoon.

You can be pretty in pink with these delicate teardrop earrings. Keep in mind that they are on the smaller side, so no bling bling worries here.

FRUGAL FIANCÉE: A Very J.Crew Wedding

J. Crew just opened its Wedding Salon in Manhattan and I have yet to check it out but I'm already a big fan of their bridesmaid dress collection.

A great thing about J.Crew is that -- if supply holds out long enough -- everything goes on sale. Above is their Cotton Cady Madeleine Dress in Fresh Mint, perfect for a springy/summery wedding.

Price: $129.99 (originally $199.99)

GUYS BUYS: Honey Hoodie

I'm so tired of seeing the same old boring gray/blue/black hoodies for men.

This bright, summery yellow hoodie was a refreshing change, indeed!

I know, I know...it's a big step to buy a yellow hoodie. But really, it's not THAT yellow. Plus, in the summer, you'd probably be wearing a hoodie at night, and this way people can find you in the dark while you're partying on the beach????

(Ok I couldn't think of any better excuses. How about you're gonna look really good in it?)

Smocked Frock

I love smocking detail on dresses. And I am unashamed to say that it's because it makes me feel like a kid again. All of my dresses when I was a kid had it, and it brings me back to a simpler, yet totally stylish and cute, fashion time.

When considering a purchase of a summer sun dress, one with pockets always puts me over the edge. Freedom from a bag is hard to achieve!

Made By: Ruche

Price: $26.99 (originally $36.99)

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING: Bad Romance

If a zebra and a bumble bee mated, they would get this dress.

I like the black and yellow trend, I really do, WHEN IT'S DONE RIGHT! This is not right. It's wrong. VERY VERY WRONG.

Also, have you ever seen the show "Jerseylicious"? Everyone on that show would wear this dress in a heartbeat, and that's reason enough to stay as far away from it as possible.

Shame on you, Charlotte Russe! Please Don't Buy This.

Learn From My Mistakes

I recently bought a pair of gold gladiator sandals that looked JUST like these before you, except I paid three times as much for mine. You can learn from my mistake and buy these instead of overpaying! (yay!)

These sandals look much much more expensive than $17, so jump at them while you can!

Made In The (Hat Induced) Shade

Over Memorial Day weekend, I had a friend mention to me that I am always talking on this blog about tanning, baking in the sun, etc. She pointed out that not every fashionista has the skin for such activites, and that some fashionistas need to keep their sensitive skin made in the shade.

The result of this conversation was a general consensus that I need to post for sun/beach hats! While big floppy hats can get mighty expenisve, this affordable and chic one from Target will prevent an immediate burn while keeping you cool and stylish.
