FRUGAL FIANCÉE: City Hall Dress

Let's say you are getting married at city hall. I say feel free to wear the biggest ball gown you want, if that is your style. It's your wedding day whether you are in a big cathedral, at city hall, or in a hippie drum circle: you should dress for you.

But if you want that understated-yet-sophisticated look and you want timeless style while you are waiting for your number to be called to tie the knot, this dress is a good fit.

Let's paint a scenario...

It's Saturday. It's on the chilly side. It's about 1 pm, and you just woke up. You're kind of hungover. After 2 hours of mindless television and eating, you're ready to get up and do something. But what? Laundry? Food shopping? All of those involve putting on REAL clothes. You can't wear your pajamas to the supermarket, now can you?

That's when you reach for your bum around pants. The pants that are as comfy as your pj's, but more socially acceptable to wear in public. In your twill bum around pants, you can do those errands and salvage your unproductive Saturday!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Traditional Black Leggings

My favorite black leggings recently developed a hole. It was a very sad day, indeed! But I can't complain, because they valiantly served their purpose for over 4 years!

My favorite leggings were a pair of double knit black leggings from Forever 21. Of course, they still have them! "Double-knit" is fashion speak for "you can't see through them." This is especially important if you like to wear your leggings as pants. I know, not everyone is into that, but if you are...double knit is rather important!

VINTAGE VIXEN: Good Glove Hunting

Vintage gloves are a perfect addition to the fall wardrobe we've been building over these past few weeks… Both practical and fashionable, you can't go wrong with gloves.

Everyone has seen the beautiful Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 ads all over with Natalia Vodianova, Karen Elson and Christy Turlington. Look at their arms… gloves! I love sheer nylon gloves, leather gloves, short gloves, long gloves, you name it! There are tons of gloves on Etsy and Ebay, as well as in your neighborhood vintage haunt (I imagine). Vintage gloves are available across all price points, so there's no excuse to buy new. I've found the details and stitching on vintage gloves are so much more luxe than new gloves. The attention to detail is so nice. The glove patterns were more complicated in previous decades and therefore the gloves slide on with
a smoother fit. Here are a few of my favorite picks:

Luxurios Vintage 50s long Opera real kid dark navy blue gloves.Size 7. Made in Western Germany. Price: $42.00.

Navy leather is my newest obsession. I love these gloves in such a mysterious midnight blue color.

Collection of Vintage Leather Gloves Opera Tea 6 1/2. Price: $15.00.

Deal city!! 6 1/2 is kind of a small hand size, so make sure you pay attention to the measurements given in these listings if you can't try before you buy, but wowza what a deal! Look at this great lot of gloves for only $15.00!

Vintage Leather Gloves. Price: $15.00.

Precious.

Vintage Miss Aris black leather
gloves. Price: $20.00.

Scalloped edges are so nice!

What a bargain! I have some almost just like this and wear them all the time!

She Seemed French In White.. Vintage White Deco French Seam Swirl Leather Gloves. Price: $30.00.

These Art Deco gloves are gorgeous!!

And here are my favorite vintage glove finds from my closet:

Happy Glove hunting!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: A Hint Of Lace

My obsessive love of tank tops spills over into the world of lace tanks. When you have, say, ten black tank tops, you begin to look for some variety!

If you're not so gung ho about the lace trend right now, or you don't know how to get into it, this tank is a good starter item of clothing for the trend. You can put a patterned cardigan or blazer over it, and let the lace straps peek out from time to time. I promise you once you grow accustomed to the lace, you'll want more of it!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: (Chain)Mail It In

Chainmail and I are besties. It's one of my favorite materials for accessories. It moves fluidly, but retains enough structure to have an interesting shape. And while I generally prefer gold chainmail, these earrings are showing me that I shouldn't ignore silver chainmail either!

While these can be worn with a nice dress or top for a fancy night, I think they would be best suited with jeans and a t-shirt for a style juxtaposition that will engage everyone you walk by.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Designer Alert

You'll get year-round mileage out of this stunning Nicole Miller
dress. That's winter white, alright!

I love the edgy silver triangles on the front and the back. It's about as edgy as you can really get when the original pricetag goes above $400, so Kudos to Nicole Miller for taking a risk!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Black Velvet

Velvet is in, and not just for dresses and jackets...

Sport that luxurious fabric on your feet! Not only is velvet warm (something to think about when wearing a sandal in the winter!), but it's got a luxurious feel to it that is perfect for cocktail parties, weddings, galas, and even your cousin's sweet sixteen.

In my opinion, the bib trend is a bit casual. What's a lot more rare is a fancy necklace that borrows elements from the bib necklace trend, edits them a bit, and comes out with a fashion forward, large piece of jewelry that you can rock in multiple formal settings.

I'm almost never into turquoise (it's just not my thing), but here I like it, and I think it works really well. The bronzed pinwheels need a color pop, and turquoise is just the thing.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Awesome Or Ugly?

Awesome?

Or Ugly?

YOU DECIDE!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: A Gray Day, Indeed

Yes, my gray obsession continues! Winter workwear can be such a blah, but with this cute, form-fitting gray dress, you don't have to sacrifice your shape or style to be work appropriate.

I also love the stark look of light draw clothing with black tights, and with tights as in as they are right now, this dress is a great opportunity to showcase the look!

In general, I'm done with plaid. It's everywhere, and it's a bit overwhelming.

Therefore, my advice to you is: if you're gonna wear plaid, make sure it's a special plaid! Make sure it really pops. Take care to wear a plaid that matches your tones, and LOOKS INTERESTING.

This plaid will be that interesting plaid for many of you. Right off the bat, the diagonal lines add something extra to the shirt pattern. Pair that with a brighter-than-normal red, and now you're no longer wearing a blah plaid shirt.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Fall Leg-wear Florals

I found out recently that floral tights are surprisingly hard to find. Geometric shapes and stripes? Yep, those are everywhere! But florals? Like finding a needle in a haystack (and I say this having gone to Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 and American Apparel, all stores that carry a pretty diverse selection of hosiery.)

In light of finding these fabulous floral tights, I think it's time to add Fred Flare to the top leg-wear names.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Take A Curly Cue

I had a pair of earrings that looked exactly like this a few years ago. When they broke, I thought to myself "ok, no big deal, I'll just go buy a similar pair." Right? WRONG.

Turns out these earrings were harder to find than I thought! I'm so happy to have found them on amazon that my heart is jumping for joy! My formal wardrobe was missing them dearly!

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Pants Attack

PANTS

I know, it's a rarity that I post about pants. But there have been more and more requests for pants. I don't know why, I guess some of you like pants?????

Yes, of course you like pants, I'm in the minority! Well...if you're gonna wear pants, say, to work, you might as well sport a sleek, slimming pair like these gray slacks. This particular pair is definitely for my high-waisted ladies. And lately I'm addicted to gray. I'm just so into it!

FRUGAL FIANCÉE: Grecian Gown

This dress is another goddess dress but I think I like this one more than other goddess dresses. The detail-bow on the asymmetric shoulder is very interesting and, if you like the Grecian look, this is a good dress.

HALF OFF HOTTIE: Half off and Right Off The Runway!

This week, I attended the Zang Toi fashion show at Pittsburgh’s first ever Fashion Week. I volunteered for the event and got to help out at the model call, and later in the fashion show, where I got to hang out back stage with the designer and Fashion Week staff and volunteers.

Zang Toi is a New York based Malaysian designer. He’s extremely talented and his clothes were absolutely stunning. He was also incredibly warm and grounded, as were his people.

For this week’s “Half Off” post, I wanted to spotlight one of Zang Toi’s Spring 2011 looks that I totally loved, a flower-detail pink cardigan with a full pleated white skirt.

It's a simple, colorful, spring look that can be easily put together with these affordable alternatives:

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Business In The Front

I love this business-int-the-front-party-in-the-back dress. You could wear this to work with a sweater or blazer over it and NO ONE would know about your little open back secret! the back is also a body part people forget to show off...let it see the light of night!

NOTE: I hear a lot of "my boobs are too big for a blackless dress." Nonsense! There is a lot of engineering right now in the world of bra technology that will enable you to wear this dress. Still having issues? Wear your regular bra, and put a black lace bandeau top on, so that the back just looks like a black lace strip.

FASHION DEAL DIVA: Awesome Sparkle, Awesome Price

A few week's ago at fashion's night out, I saw an AMAZING pair of sparkle pumps. They unfortunately came with an amazingly high pricetag.

I knew that if I could just find them at a slightly lower price, then I would buy them in a second. And here we are! Of course ModCloth would have them for the wonderfully low price of $39.99! Because, let's face it, you're not gonna wear these shoes all the time, but it's nice to have them in your closet for the days when you want to go glam!
