Velvet in any rich color is an automatic win for holiday party wear. Beyond Christmas parties, you can wear this dress in January and February as a winter black cocktail dress, so it won't just be associated with your Christmas closet collection.
Some notes: I have a friend who speaks VERY highly of this dress. I have tried it on, and while I love the feel of it, I just can't rock it with such wide hips and my these-ladies-need-a-bra boobs. But if you have a different body, or you're a big fan of spanx (I've never worn Spanx and I'm holding out for now!), then you should definitely give this luxurious dress a try.
